'Handmade Records' is proud to announce the release of Eric Gaffney's "Uncharted Waters," a 27 song collection of songs spanning 10 years of recording in New York, Northampton and San Francisco.

Coming on the heels of Domino's reissue of Sebadoh III, and the following 29 States- Sebadoh reunion tour, Uncharted Waters is a powerful affirmation of the former release's free-wheeling, DIY attitude.
Gaffney founded Sebadoh in Florence, Massachusetts in 1989 after self-releasing The Freed Man tape with Dinosaur Jr.'s Lou Barlow in September 1988 and signing with Homestead. In 1989, Jason Loewenstein joined Sebadoh with Eric booking the first shows through 1990, after which the trio released Sebadoh III in 1991, Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock in 1992 on Sub Pop, and Bubble & Scrape in 1993.  Gaffney played the III tour in 1991, toured with Sonic Youth/Pavement in Europe, and Wedding Present in U.K., 1992 and Lollapalooza/US tour and European/UK tour 1993.

THE FREED MAN (52 SONG REISSUE!) WAS RELEASED JUNE 25TH (UK) TUESDAY JULY 10TH 2007 (US) By Domino.

Gaffney's angular guitar style, jazzy drumming, bizarre lyrics,  collage artwork, and album titles (Bubble & Scrape, Sebadoh Vs. Helmet, Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock, and Rockin' The Forest) were integral to the group myth, as well as the irreverent, unpredictable switch-off nature of their live performances. After leaving the group in 1994, Eric nearly signed with Atlantic Records and Sub Pop, played solo shows, then started the "Fields of Gaffney" in 1998 and has since released the solo album Brilliant Concert Numbers on Old Gold (1999), A singles club 45 for Sub Pop, in 2000, then relocated to San Francisco, assembled a new line-up and released "Nature Walk" (WMBR Top 10) in 2003 and "Cosmic Chicken & Egg" (WNYU Top 10) on Animal Friends, Eric's D.I.Y. mail-order label.  Fields of Gaffney toured the U.S. from 2003 to 2004, performing at festivals such as South By Southwest in Austin and Noise Pop (twice) in San Francisco.

The August, 2006 re-issue of "Sebadoh III" in it's original form, re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London, with a second CD of extras, demos, and bonus tracks, including "Gimme Indie Rock," The reissue has resulted in renewed interest in Sebadoh and many reviews, including the noted 9.3 in Pitchfork. III peaked at  #17 on CMJ Top 200 Radio, Sept. 2006. Old Gold Records in Atlanta, Georgia co-releases the CD in North America.

-“It’s refreshing to find someone who has stuck to his guns and continued the same aesthetic throughout his career.” –The Skinny

“Going back and listening to the Sebadoh III reissue one realizes what a valued contribution Eric made to that era of the band. One might consider a 27 track CD excessive, but there is little fat that needs to be trimmed from this fine disc.” – Amplitude

“The 27 songs that make up the disc evoke the warped pop sensibilities that countered Lou Barlow’s emotional frailty during Sebadoh’s middle period of Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock and Bubble and Scrape.” - Flagpole
